Introspection: the examination or observation of one's own mental and emotional processes to gain insight on oneself.
There are a lot of ways to look deeply into your heart for innerstanding and guidance—journaling, walking meditation, sitting meditation, therapy, or even talking with a trusted friend or partner.
Whatever your chosen method, a practice of introspection can be very powerful. It’s a chance to explore your thoughts, triggers, pains, and insecurities without judgement or reservation—and to learn and grow from the insights gained.
My personal introspection practice involves a daily journaling ritual. Every morning, I make myself a cup of green tea, light candles, select an essential oil blend for my diffuser, and settle in on my fluffy meditation pillow. Then I grab my journal and dive in.
And that’s where this diffuser blend was born!
Introspection Diffuser Blend
Benzoin - 2 drops
Lavender of Lavandin - 2 drops
Magnolia - 2 drops
This is my go-to blend for my daily journaling practice. I am consistently shocked at the depths revealed when I use Introspection Diffuser Blend. I work with different oils when I journal, but I consistently find myself coming back to this particular blend. It has the most oomph for getting to those elusive truths hiding in the deeper recesses of the heart space.
Here’s the breakdown of the intentions behind each of the oils in this blend.
Benzoin
Benzoin isn’t a common oil, but I promise it’s worth the effort to acquire. I purchase it from Rose Mountain Herbs. I am obsessed with it.
Benzoin is a beautiful resin oil. It smells amazing, with a sweet, vanilla-like scent.
When you use benzoin, it helps truth bubble to the surface. The padding created by the Ego is peeled back to help you to access deep truths within, often things you are hiding from yourself.
This can rock your foundation, so be sure to use this blend only when you are feeling brave enough to face your uncomfortable truths.
Benzoin is very thick and viscous and can clog your diffuser. I wipe out my diffuser immediately after use to keep the resin from building up over time.
Lavender or Lavandin*
Lavender calms anxiety and promotes feelings of peace. This can be important when you’re doing shadow work. You need to feel safe as you peel back the layers to find your inner truth. Lavender provides a safety and security to this process.
*Lavandin is a lavender hybrid. I like the way scent blends with benzoin, but regular lavender will work just as well.
Magnolia
Magnolia oil is like the fluffiest, softest pillow in the universe. It adds a gentle, petal-soft embrace to shelter you and comfort you as delve into deep introspection work.
Where I Buy Oils
I’m not a fan of the big MLM oil companies. While they have nice oils, their prices are ridiculous for normal people who want to use essential oils every day. They’ve done a good job producing marketing materials that aim to convince shoppers they are the only place for quality oils, but it’s just not true.
After some research, I’ve landed on a few independently owned oil companies that offer quality products with fair prices.
